Nate Farley (Dayton[2]) is een Amerikaans gitarist. Hij heeft gespeeld bij diverse bands waaronder The Breeders en Guided by Voices (GBV). Steven Hyden van Grantland noemde Farley the most "rock-and-roll" guy in GBV.[3] In 2005 richtte Farley Shawen Acres op.

Biografie

Farley, geboren en getogen in Dayton, speelde in de band Tasties voordat hij samen met Tasties' Luis Lerma in 1995 werd uitgenodigd om de gelederen van Kim Deal's nieuwe band Tammy & the Amps te versterken. Deal speelde daarvoor in The Breeders maar deze band viel uit elkaar door oververmoeidheid en de arrestatie van Deal's zus Kelley wegens drugsbezit.[4][5] De band bestond verder uit Jim MacPherson (The Breeders).[6] Nog datzelfde jaar verscheen het album Pacer. In 1996 nam de band de naam van The Breeders aan en werd de bezetting aangevuld met Carrie Bradley (Ed's Redeeming Qualities). Een jaar later voegde ook Kelley zich weer bij de band. Er werd getourd met Foo Fighters, Guided by Voices en Sonic Youth.

In 1997 verlieten MacPherson en Farley The Breeders. Ze sloten zich in 1998 aan bij Guided by Voices. Farley verving Tobin Sprout die meer tijd aan zijn vaderschap ging besteden.[7] Guided by Voices staat bekend om zijn lo-fi opnames maar gaf in die tijd juist meer gepolijste albums uit. Frontman Robert Pollard startte een nieuwe band, Lexo and the Leapers, met de bedoeling om toch lo-fi te kunnen blijven spelen.[8] Hij schakelde de Tasties in, waaronder Farley, ter muzikale ondersteuning. In 1999 verscheen het album Ask them. Wat betreft het zijproject bleef het bij dit album. Farley bleef bij Guided by Voices tot de band in 2004 werd opgeheven. Hij zou geen deel meer uitmaken van latere iteraties van de band.
