Pillarboxing as it now known was invented in the Blitz when toys were scarce and moral was low. Most little ones were shipped off to Lemington Spa or similar. The ones left behind, usually the poor of The East End had to amuse themselves between air raids. This become known as 'Pillarboxing' PB involves; finding a pillar box, getting a leg up (the 'Blitz' spirit) sitting on top of the pillar box until the next air raid. It was almost forgotten in 1960s but saw a resurgence after it was featured in a Christmas episode of Allo Allo in 1986. Since then it's popularity has flourished as its low carbon and is vegan friendly. There is a huge Pillarboxing community online.
